If I wear prescription eyeglasses, can I use XanderGlasses? What is the process?

Yes, in many cases. We can order custom lenses to match your prescription depending on the type of lenses you need and the severity of the prescription.

If you have hearing challenges and wear prescription eyeglasses, you may wonder if XanderGlasses will work for you.  The type of lenses you wear and the severity of your prescription, will determine whether custom lenses can be made for your XanderGlasses.

We review 5 common scenarios below. Please note: XanderGlasses are not “fit-overs” and should not be worn over any glasses, even readers. If we can accommodate your prescription, we offer this service at no extra cost.

More details or examples of these common scenarios are provided here.

Common Scenarios

1. Prescription lenses for distance vision only.

Yes. Prescription lenses for most single-distance vision are available for XanderGlasses. Since the captions are projected at a distance, you likely will need your prescription to read the captions. Please note: most prescriptions needing (+) SPHERE correction cannot be accommodated. Please read this article.

2. Reading glasses or prescription eyeglasses to magnify small print.

Yes, we offer stick-on magnification lenses to match standard magnifications found in OTC readers.

Most people who need reading glasses or magnification can read the captions on XanderGlasses easily, because the captions are projected outward, at about arm's length, into your middle or distance vision. But even if you can read the captions through your XanderGlasses, you may still need magnification to see other printed items, like a menu, phone, or smart watch, during a conversation. The stick-on magnification lenses allow your XanderGlasses to function as readers.

3. Progressive (multi-focal) lenses

Unfortunately, we cannot make custom progressive lenses for XanderGlasses. For more information, please read this article.

4. Bi-focal lenses

We can offer a solution for bi-focal wearers. We can order custom lenses to accommodate the distance portion of your prescription and we can provide clear stick-on magnifiers that adhere to the inside of the Xanderglasses lenses. These create a bi-focal effect, enabling you to read smaller print while wearing XanderGlasses.

4. Contact lenses

You can wear XanderGlasses over your contacts, the same way you can wear regular sunglasses over contacts.

5. Prism lenses

Unfortunately, we cannot make custom prism lenses for XanderGlasses at this time. For more information, please read this article.

What is the cost of having custom prescription lenses made for XanderGlasses?

Xander will cover the cost of your single-vision distance prescription ($149) at no additional charge. Xander will cover the cost of stick-on magnifiers at no extra charge. Please note: the cost of prescription lenses is not refundable, since prescriptions are customized. If you decide to return XanderGlasses within the 30-day return window, we will refund the cost of XanderGlasses, fully minus the $149 cost of prescription lenses.

What's the process for ordering prescription lenses for XanderGlasses?

The process takes longer and entails a few steps. After you place an order or pre-order, you or your optometrist will upload your most recent eyeglass prescription. Once the prescription is received, it takes about 4 weeks to receive XanderGlasses with custom lenses.
