How do I update my XanderGlasses?

You can use our free iPhone/Android app to add a Wi-Fi network to your glasses and automatically download & install an update.

Xander provides free software updates for your XanderGlasses that may include optimizations and new features. Please follow these steps to update your XanderGlasses.

1. Download / update the free Xander iPhone / Android app

If you haven't done so previously, please, download and install our free Xander app to your iPhone or Android device.

If you have the Xander app, please make sure you are on the latest version by visiting the App Store and re-downloading the app, if an update is available.

2. Power on your XanderGlasses, charge if necessary

Turn on your XanderGlasses and wear them like you usually would.

When you see the message "Hi, I'm Xander. I'll help you 'hear'" please check the battery % remaining in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

If the battery % remaining is less than 30%, we recommend your charge your XanderGlasses for at least 1 hour before continuing.

3. Connect your mobile app to your glasses

Keep your XanderGlasses on (if you don't mind) and open the Xander app on your mobile device.

If this is your first time using the Xander app, please follow the steps in the app to connect your mobile device to your glasses.

4. Add a WiFi network to your glasses 

Please follow these steps to add a WiFi network to your glasses. You will need to know the name and password of your WiFi network before you continue.

  1. With your glasses on and connected to your mobile device, tap the "System" button in the bottom-right corner of the mobile app.
  2. Next, tap the "Setup WiFi" button.
  3. Now type in the Network SSID for your WiFi network. This is the name of the WiFi network.
  4. Enter the Password for your WiFi network. To see your password as you type, tap the "eye" icon at the right edge of the password input field.
  5. Lastly, tap "Send credentials" to send your WiFi network and password to your XanderGlasses.
    1. If successful, your glasses will display a system status message: "Connected to WiFi". 
    2. If unsuccessful, the glasses will display a system status message: "Failed to connect to WiFi". Please make sure your WiFi network name and password are correct and try again.

5. Install an update, if available

With your glasses on, and connected to your WiFi network & your mobile app, please follow these steps to have your glasses install an update (if available).

  1. In the mobile app, navigate to the System page.
    1. If the mobile app is in the "Setup WiFi" screen, tap the "<" icon at the top left of the screen to return to the System menu.
    2. Otherwise, tap the "System" icon at the bottom right corner of the mobile app 
  2. Now tap the "Glasses Details" button.
  3. Lastly, tap the "Check for Updates" button, and "Confirm" to continue.
    1. If an update is available, your glasses will  display a system message that an update is available, and it will begin downloading and installing the update.
    2. If your glasses are already on the latest version, they will display a system status message: "Glasses already up-to-date!"
    3. If you see any other type of error message in your XanderGlasses, please restart your glasses.
  4. In the Glasses Details section
    1. The latest Software version should be: 1.4.4
    2. The latest Update version should be: 1.2.0
    3. If you do not have both of these versions, please restart your glasses and repeat the steps in this article. Please note: due to a known issue in our Wi-Fi settings, you may need to re-enter your Wi-Fi SSID and password.
