Use our free iPhone / Android app to download and install an update directly onto XanderGlasses.
We’re always working to improve your experience captioning with XanderGlasses. We will provide free updates for XanderGlasses that include new features, performance optimizations, and bug fixes. You will use the XanderGlasses Companion app to download free updates directly onto your glasses.
Please follow these steps to update your XanderGlasses.
1. Download / update the free Xander iPhone / Android app
Open the XanderGlasses companion app on your phone (the mobile device you use for the companion app) to ensure you have the latest version of the companion app. The app will let you know if you need to update.
NOTE: If you have not already done so, please download the free XanderGlasses companion app to your iPhone or Android device.
2. Power on your XanderGlasses, charge if necessary
Turn on your XanderGlasses and wear them like you usually would.
When you see the message "Hi, I'm Xander. I'll help you 'hear,'" please check the battery % in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
If the battery % remaining is less than 30%, please charge your XanderGlasses for at least 1 hour before continuing.
3. Connect the XanderGlasses app to your glasses
Open the XanderGlasses companion app on your mobile device while wearing your XanderGlasses.
If this is your first time using the XanderGlasses mobile app, the app will guide you through connecting your mobile device to your glasses.
4. Enable the update to your glasses by connecting to your WiFi network
If you successfully connected your glasses to your WiFi network in the past, you may proceed to Step 5.
Follow these steps to add a WiFi network to your glasses so they can receive updates. You need to know the name and password of your WiFi network before you continue.
NOTE: Your glasses do not have to be connected to WiFi to caption, but they must connect to WiFI to receive updates.
- Tap the "System" button in the bottom-right corner of the companion app.
- Tap the "Setup WiFi" button (center of the screen).
- Type in the name of your WiFi network when asked for Network SSID.
- Enter the Password for your WiFi network. To see your password as you type, tap the "eye" icon at the right edge of the password input field.
- Lastly, tap "Send credentials" to add your WiFi network and password to your XanderGlasses.
- If successful, your glasses will display a system status message: "Connected to WiFi".
- If unsuccessful, the glasses will display a system status message: "Failed to connect to WiFi". Please make sure your WiFi network name and password are correct and try again.
5. Install the update
After you connect XanderGlasses to your WiFi network use the companion app to enable your glasses to install the update. Please continue to wear the glasses for this.
- In the mobile app, navigate to the System page.
- If the mobile app is in the "Setup WiFi" screen, tap the "<" icon at the top left of the screen to return to the System menu.
- Otherwise, tap the "System" icon at the bottom right corner of the mobile app
- Tap the "Glasses Details" button.
- If an update is available, your glasses will display a system message that an update is available, and it will begin downloading and installing the update. NOTE: You may see an error message in your XanderGlasses at this point. Restart your glasses to clear the error and continue. See this article on restarting your glasses.
- If your glasses are already running the latest version, the glasses will display a system status message: "Glasses already up-to-date!"
- In your mobile app, navigate to the System page and tap the Glasses Details section

- The latest Software version should be: 2.0.2
- The latest Update version should be: 1.2.2.
- If you do not have both of these versions, please restart your glasses and repeat the steps in this article. Please note: due to a known issue in our Wi-Fi settings, you may need to re-enter your Wi-Fi SSID and password.
